Who Is She?

Hayley Jane is a singer and performer who came up through musical theater and never left the theatricality behind. On stage she is a whirlwind, costumes, characters, and a huge voice, drawing the obvious comparisons to Janis Joplin and Mick Jagger for the sheer physical commitment of it.

The music underneath is what she has called a "genre catastrophe," a happy collision of Americana, soul, and rock and roll. With her band, long known as Hayley Jane and the Primates, it becomes a jam-scene favorite: loose, joyful, and built around the live moment rather than the record.

1. 2007

   The Primates form in Boston

   Hayley Jane forms Hayley Jane and the Primates in Boston, bringing a theater performer's instincts to a roots-rock band.

2. Early Years

   Warped Tour and the UK

   She is scouted as a backing singer by Big D and the Kids Table, which takes her onto the Warped Tour and over to the UK, sharpening the live performer she was becoming.

3. 2014

   Gasoline

   The debut full-length, engineered by Brian Wallace of Sublime and recorded around a West Coast tour. The same year, the band wins the New England Music Awards' Roots/Americana Act of the Year.

4. 2017

   We're Here Now

   The sophomore album, a fuller and more confident record that captures more of the band's live personality.

5. 2019 & on

   Solo singles and reunions

   Hayley steps out with solo singles like "Ignite," while continuing to reunite with the Primates for festival sets that remain the real draw.

6. 2024

   One More Day

   A recent single that keeps the thread going, and a reminder that the voice and the presence have only grown.
